Taiwan Festival Committee Incorporated is a non-profit organisation formed by the Taiwanese community in Sydney. It is the primary host of the Sydney Taiwan Festival, an annual community event that aims to promote the culture, multiculturalism and values shared between Australia and Taiwan. The organisation also hosts other minor Taiwanese themed events, such as Taiwanese Banquet, Film Screening, Taiwan Tea Festival and Taiwan Baseball Day.
Home to East Asia’s highest mountain Yushan (Mount Jade), Taiwan is situated at the heart of Asia. Richly multicultural, the democratic nation’s unique history, marked by waves of immigration from China and other countries has given Taiwan its distinct identity. Aboriginal, Hokkien, and Hakka traditions play an important role in Taiwanese culture.
The Festival will showcase the country’s rich traditions, with a particular focus on the Aboriginal, Hakka, and “Miaohui” Temple Fair cultures. Attendees can enjoy plenty of exciting performances from diverse groups of artists and performers from Taiwan, including martial arts, traditional and modern dances, musical performances, and puppet shows. Local performance groups will also join the festivities. Traditional arts and crafts stalls and games suitable for families will provide a flavour of Taiwan’s famous night market culture. We invite visitors to try authentic Taiwanese cuisine, and sample the nation’s various mouth-watering snacks.
